David Umahi Orders Immediate Repair of Vandalised River Niger Bridge

The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has ordered the immediate repair of parts of the Head Bridge, Onitsha, vandalised by suspected criminals.

Umahi gave the directive after inspecting the damaged portions of the bridge, following reports and social media footage showing the extent of the vandalisation.

The Minister said further inspection revealed that the damage was more extensive than what was initially seen on social media, noting that an overhead steel member had also been disconnected.

He directed the officials handling the repairs to immediately procure bolts that could be replaced, while instructing welders to commence serious welding works on the affected sections.

Umahi said the repair of the components that could still be restored should be carried out immediately, while a new steel member would be procured to replace the severely damaged one.

He directed that the affected sections be secured and repaired without creating another opening on the bridge.
