Dr Deji Adeleke, elder brother of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, says he prayed that voters would collect money allegedly offered by the APC during the August 15, 2026, governorship election, but still vote for his brother.
Speaking after Ademola Adeleke secured re-election, Deji said he became concerned after hearing reports about the amount of money allegedly being spent by the APC to influence voters. He said he chose to pray rather than try to match the alleged spending.
Deji claimed that the APC spent about ₦60 billion during the election and alleged that voters in some areas were offered as much as ₦50,000 per vote. These figures are claims made by Deji and have not been independently established.
He said the Adeleke camp’s victory was not because it had more money or a stronger political structure, but because of what he described as its reliance on God and prayers.
Ademola Adeleke was declared the winner by INEC after defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, securing a second term as Osun State governor.
