Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has warned that Nigeria faces a bleak future if the ruling All Progressives Congress and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remain in power beyond 2027.
Lawal made the remark during a political meeting in Bauchi, where he and other stakeholders discussed ongoing consultations and possible realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He stated that allowing the current administration to continue could lead to severe economic hardship, worsening insecurity, and increased suffering among citizens.
According to him, opposition forces must unite to prevent what he described as an “impending disaster,” stressing the need for a strong coalition capable of challenging the ruling party in the next election cycle.
Lawal also linked his comments to ongoing efforts by political actors exploring alternative platforms, including the African Democratic Congress, as part of broader opposition strategies.
The remarks come amid increasing political alignments and consultations across party lines as Nigeria gradually moves toward the 2027 elections.
