The African Democratic Congress has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of acting under pressure from the Federal Government following the removal of its leaders, David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, from the commission’s official records.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party rejected INEC’s decision, describing it as inconsistent and politically influenced.
The ADC alleged that the electoral body’s action was driven by a government “jittery” about the rising momentum of opposition forces, warning that such moves could undermine democratic processes.
The party further criticised INEC’s interpretation of a recent court ruling, insisting that it does not justify the removal of its leadership from official records.
ADC also warned that the development suggests the commission may be taking sides, raising concerns about neutrality ahead of future elections.
The party said it is currently reviewing its options and will announce its next course of action, urging members and supporters to remain calm as the situation unfolds.
