Former Kogi West senator and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dino Melaye, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of taking steps towards manipulating the 2027 general elections, warning that Nigerians and opposition parties would resist any attempt to rig the polls.
Melaye made the allegation in a post on his X account on Sunday, November 1, describing the commission’s recent activities as signs of what he called “anticipatory rigging”. He urged INEC to restore public confidence in its operations ahead of the elections.
“INEC must be born again this time because we will not allow rigging. Rig and say your final prayer,” he warned.
His comments come amid controversy over suspected AI-generated photographs discovered in INEC’s preliminary voters’ register and complaints by political parties over the omission of some candidates from the commission’s published lists.
INEC has said it is reviewing questionable voter records and working to clean up the register before its final certification on December 15, 2026.
