Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshi nationals, Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siri Akhtar, following conviction of immoral sexual act inside a mosque in Mecca.
The “immoral act” was apparently a kiss on the forehead. They were newlyweds who decided to spend their honeymoon in Mecca.
According to reports from Bangladesh, the offence was a kiss on the forehead.
The couple had travelled to Mecca to celebrate their honeymoon, and the gesture was reportedly intended as an expression of gratitude to Allah for the blessing of their marriage but the Saudi authority didn’t see it that way.
They refused to accept their explanation that they were husband and wife.
Their bodies arrived Bangladesh in two coffins for traditional burial rites.
