The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, joined First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, Inspector General of Police and other senior security leaders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja for the second edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) financial support programme for widows of fallen military and police personnel.
The programme, organised by the Office of the First Lady under the RHI Social Investment Programme, provides financial assistance to families of security personnel who died while serving the country.
Shaibu described the initiative as a significant demonstration of national appreciation and solidarity with families who lost their loved ones in service, stressing that supporting them remains a collective responsibility.
He said continued assistance to families of fallen personnel not only honours their sacrifices but also strengthens the morale, commitment and fighting spirit of serving troops.
The COAS also commended the First Lady and the RHI for complementing the Nigerian Army’s efforts to improve the welfare of serving personnel and their families.
Shaibu reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to honouring fallen heroes and ensuring that their families receive the dignity, care and support they deserve, stressing that the nation’s responsibility to its fallen personnel extends beyond recognising their sacrifice to caring for those they left behind.
