Army Rescue Abducted JAMB Candidates In Benue


 

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued 13 passengers abducted from a Benue Links commercial bus along the Makurdi–Otukpo road.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the victims were among 17 passengers kidnapped last Wednesday while travelling from Makurdi to Otukpo in Benue

Benue Gov Receives Rescued Victims of Makurdi–Otukpo Bus Abduction

The Governor of Benue State has received the rescued passengers of the Benue Links bus abducted along the Makurdi–Otukpo corridor, confirming their safe recovery following coordinated security operations

The incident occurred on 15th April 2026 along the Taraku axis in Gwer-East Local Government Area, where armed criminals reportedly abducted passengers travelling through the route.

According to the governor, all abducted persons have now been successfully rescued through sustained operations carried out by a combined team of security agencies, including the Police, Nigerian Army, DSS, Civil Defence, the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, and local vigilante groups.

He praised the collaboration between security operatives and local communities, noting that their joint efforts were critical to the success of the rescue mission.

Authorities also confirmed that seven suspects linked to the abduction are currently in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the criminal network.

Special attention has been directed to eight students among the victims who were en route to sit for their JAMB examinations, with arrangements being made to ensure they are given another opportunity to write their exams, alongside necessary government support.

The rescued victims have also been directed to undergo medical evaluation to ensure full recovery.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across Benue State, dismantling criminal hideouts, and ensuring safer roads and communities for residents.

He also commended the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police for their swift intervention during the operation.
