Few Hours To Deadline: Transport Minister, Alkali Resigns

The Minister of Transportation, Saidu Ahmed Alkali, has resigned from his position.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Alkali’s media aide, Umar Alkali Jibril.

According to him, the resignation followed a presidential directive requiring all political appointees seeking elective office to step down from their roles.

Jibril said the minister resigned to pursue his ambition to contest in the forthcoming governorship election.

“In his resignation letter, he expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, noting the progress recorded in the transportation sector during his tenure,” the statement said.

It added that the President has accepted the resignation and commended the former minister for his dedicated service to the nation.

This is to enable him contest the 2027 gubernatorial election in Gombe State
