Atlético Madrid’s Response To UEFA On Julian Alvarez Disallowed Penalty Goal Against Real Madrid

“We know a VAR error will never change the final result. No matter how clear the mistake, the score will stand. But we deeply regret this ‘incident’ and its impact on us.

This has shattered the hopes of millions of fans and undermined the extraordinary effort of our team.”

Despite UEFA’s clarification, Atlético remains frustrated, arguing that:

- The ball did not clearly move before the strike in any of the available angles.

- VAR should only intervene for clear and obvious errors, and this decision was made in just 45 seconds, according to club staff.

Atleti concluded: “It is not in Atlético’s DNA to make excuses or shift the focus elsewhere. We are already looking ahead to our next challenge—Sunday’s match against Barcelona.”
