LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT REPLIES CRITICS OF MOBILE COURTS...LAGOS COMM. FOR INFORMATION SPEAKS TO CKN NEWS

Steve Ayorinde
Since the Lagos State government introduced the new mobile courts to try traffic offenders, several Lagosians have expressed their reservations on the courts. Those who spoke with CKN News said, the government is doing what it ought to do last first.According to them, most Lagos streets and roads had no road signs to direct motorists.According to them, law enforcement agents like the Police and LASTMA have capitalised on this to arrest and extort money from vunerable motorists.

For them, the State government should first of all do the needful before enagaging in the arrest and prosecution of offenders.

But the State Commissioner of Information and Strategy,Steve Ayorinde in an interview with CKN News this morning has this to say about the complaints.

“Govt is committed to providing more road signs. But that's not an excuse for those violating the law. You don't need road signs to know conductors shouldn't open the doors and stand by the door ways calling passengers while the vehicle is in motion; road signs alone don't tell you not to overtake or overspeed recklessly or attack traffic management officers. What is important is to be accustomed to traffic laws and respect them in order to avoid running foul of the Lagos state traffic laws that are now ready to bite.“
