EFCC ARRESTS NAMA MD ,OTHER DIRECTORS OVER ALLEGED FRAUD

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday stormed the headquarters of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Lagos, and took into custody the agency’s managing director, Ibrahim Abdulsalam, the general manager, Procurement, Mr Olumuyiwa Adegorite and general manager, Finance, Nurudeen Segun Agbolade.

It was not clear why the EFCC is investigating the agency whose role is to provide, maintain and manage aeronautic and navigational equipment for the nation’s pauperized aviation sector but it was learnt that before the anti-graft agency’s arrest and questioning of NAMA’s top officials yesterday, a former managing director of NAMA was already reporting to the EFCC to answer to allegations of fraud with respect to the acquisition of total radar coverage of Nigeria, otherwise known as TRACON and other multi-billion naira contracts.

As at the time of filing this report, the three NAMA officials were said to still be undergoing rigorous interrogation by the EFCC.

NAMA’s spokeswoman, Mr Jumoke Adetona declined comments on matter, refusing to pick calls put to her phone or respond to text messages sent to her telephone yesterday.

Aside the provision of air traffic services, the trio’s roles are said to be very vital to the sustainability of NAMA in terms of disbursements of funds, provision and acquisition of safety related equipment and the general running of the parastatal.

A top official of the agency said the NAMA boss was about holding a meeting with Human Resources Department when the EFCC officials stormed NAMA at about 11.55 am yesterday.

The source further disclosed that the EFCC officials were seeking explanation into some ‘questionable’ contracts awarded to some companies which were said to no have followed due process.

As if it had been hinted of possible investigation of its operations by the EFCC, NAMA recently embarked on an aggressive publicity of the achievements of the agency under Abdusallam, which was published by a number of newspapers and several online aviation industry media in the last few days.
