BUHARI MAY USE SHORT VACATION TO ATTEND TO HEALTH ISSUES

Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has officially handed over the leadership of the country to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. The decision is to allow the President begin a fiveday vacation which takes off yesterday (Friday). According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, President Buhari has already written to the leadership of the Senate on the development.

The statement said: “While President Buhari is on vacation, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo will perform the functions of the President. “In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, President Buhari has dispatched a formal notice of his vacation to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.”

President Buhari is expected to resume duty Wednesday next. President Buhari left Nigeria for Ethiopia on Monday where he attended the 26th session of the summit of African Union (AU). He returned to Abuja before proceeding to France and then to London for the European Union meeting.

The President who is yet to return begins the vacation in London. It was however not clear where President Buhari will be spending the five day vacation. An online news media had earlier revealed that during his visit to the United Kingdom, President Buhari will undertake a visit to medical doctors in a London hospital.

The report by the online media said the President agreed to participate in a Syrian solidarity meeting because it provides a perfect cover for the medical visit. According to the report, there has been a debate within the presidency about the medical visit, with some of his handlers arguing that the Syria meeting provides a perfect alibi as the President should not be seen to be sick less than one year after taking power.

Following the six-week postponement of the 2015 presidential election, Mr. Buhari, spent a prolonged period in London, reportedly to rest. He subsequently spent another nine days in London to meet with his doctors, returning only a day to his inauguration. There are indications that upon his return from London, the President will embark on another trip to the Middle East, visiting Egypt, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
