Senate President David Mark will today lead Nigerian
parliamentarians to the 129th Inter- Parliamentary Union (IPU) meetings holding
in Geneva, Switzerland.
The 129th IPU will deliberate on
“Towards a nuclear -weapon-free world: The role of the parliament”, under its
Standing Committee on Peace and Security.
It will also dwell “Towards
risk-resilient development: Taking into consideration demographic trends and
natural constraints”, under its Standing Committee on Sustainable Development,
Finance and Trade.
The conference will also debate on
“The role of parliaments in protecting the rights of children, in particular
unaccompanied migrant children and in preventing their exploitation in
situations of war”, organised by its Committee on Democracy and Human Rights.
Senator Mark will, on Monday, address
the session on the Nigerian perspective to the topics slated for the debate.
The President of the Senate is
accompanied by Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Honourable Emeka
Ihedioha, Senators Abdulaziz Usman, Helen Esuene, Ganiyu Solomon, Edobor
Uzamere and Ahmed Hassan Barata.
