CKN Nigeria Readers React To Our Story On Nigerian Single Mothers In London

The Streets of London are full of single mothers and their children, who take advantage of the British law that protects women and children to get free accommodation, feeding and other allowances..Most Nigerian babes here are taking advantage of the situation ..So if you are interested in having some comfort in London. With such status,u ll have all the benefits but the snag is ,you must have been here for some years to earn your papers as a citizen.I now see the reason why some Nigerian ladies love London...CKN

    • Anita Mute Awuku Chris Kehinde Nwandu Ckn...its a shame you assert yourself on an issue and system you have absolutely NO CLUE about! It is also very insulting to so many single-mums that have raised their children very well...ignorantly, you portray and paint all with the same brush....I think you should stick to the naija stories/news cos you do well in that. People pay taxes here and its a 'give & take' system! Yes, some people take advantage of the welfare system -indigenes especially but I dont know where you got your statistics as per 'most Nigerian babes..'DWP? PCT? Local Authority? The Govt has its own ways of attempting to deal with social exclusion issues hence the welfare system...Mind you, its not as 'porous' nor easy for exploitation as before. There are alot of Nigerian mothers raising their children single-handedly and still have a career...it may interest you that the Mayor of Enfield is a Nigerian and she raised her kids singlehandedly.....We moan when the White/West potray us in bad light but what do we make of this?

    • Anita Mute Awuku Chris Kehinde Nwandu Ckn, you have displayed abysmal ignorance on the system perhaps in an attempt to be funny....'some'? Some people are blind? Is that news? It isnt a news worthy statement pls.....I read you clearly and you are just communicating a BIG ERROR! Highly erroneous and spreading whats NOT! Arguably, its the handful of 'naija babes' you know..shame they aint newsworthy! There are so many Naija ladies/women that are doing excellently well here in the UK and have raised their kids single-handedly too! If you know the 'Jerry Springer-lowlife', pls note they are everywhere and NOT news worthy! In the UK, we deal with statistics, howbeit abit 'skewed' but very reliable..I have an indepth knowledge into issues of social exclusion, welfare system etc and I can educate you on it for free. Pls stop spreading whats NOT!

    • Anita Mute Awuku Onyinye...some women are raising the kids 'single-handedly' even whilst in their matrimonial home cos the man is a bleeting figure-head! Chris Kehinde Nwandu Ckn, I will advise that you choose your 'topics' and 'words' carefully as this update is highly tainted with arrogance and judgemental colours to say the least - firstly, to single-mums and also to a system that you have no clue of.....The use of the word 'comfort' is also misleading as its a life of abject poverty and social exclusion to say the least.

    • Anita Mute Awuku Well, I am glad alot on this thread have enough 'gray-matter' to decipher that your update is a fallacy and an attempt to make a mockery of alot of things you are clueless about including the many issues that lead to 'single-mum'. 4 hours ago ·

    • Anita Mute Awuku Debo, there are laws that govern Homelesslessness in the UK. 2) there is no such 'litter' of..... as asserted by Chris Kehinde Nwandu Ckn......Even Street homeless/Rough Sleepers have been cleared off the streets as much as possible and in London in particular -its the Olympics pls and concerted effort has been made....There is also no more social housing per se to just place people in.....Yes, there is a statutory obligation on the Local Authority to house homeless people but it is based on a vulnerability test....No ONE GETS an automatic right to a Flat/House pls! Its a tough-call and cycle they have to go through and COMFORT isnt one of the many process.....

    • Debo Bamgboye Let's call it what it is, yes know one ever said every single mom does this but some ( few) do this for the sake of being a single mom for the purpose of housing and the govt funds
4 hours ago via mobile ·

    • Anita Mute Awuku Debo the law has changed drastically particularly with the influx of the EU. The stats show that the EU nationals put more pressure on housing and welfare system hence laws have changed drastically. I work on a strategic level with social exclusion & wellbeing issues that even include Young teenage parents services funding and can tell you for free that Nigerians are not high on the statisics because we collate data on ethnic monitoring

    • Olurotimi Tolulope Fadahunsi ‎@Anita, pardon me I did not follow the trend I have only just read the other comments and can see where you are coming from. I am not condemning the single mothers. I am only pointing out the malaise of single parenting. I live in the UK too and I appreciate the single mothers and the pressures they bear. A few of them needn't be in that position but for the system that encourages it.

    • Anita Mute Awuku The UK system as you know Olurotimi is built on trust. Nowhere in the EU region can you just enter their system and take 'advantage' of it like it is obtainable here so to speak. The system is therefore not built to condone or encourage rather backed by statutes & laws hence the duty of care. A number of people abuse the system -white british especially where you will find generations that have never worked on the dole and in council houses but to say its a life of 'comfort' is laughable! It has bred alot of antisocial issues with high crime rates in these Council Estates to say the least....the Somalians for example raise large families on the dole but things are changing gradually. To assert that London streets are littered with single mum...is an insult to say the least! The word 'litter' says it all and Naija babes..blah! blah!!..Even Kano street in Lagos has been rid of 'litter' yet they are not on the same benchmark. The reason we dont live behind highwalls of concrete with no 'buglary' iron grills is because the unemployed are taken care to say the least. Its just in bad taste when an assertion is erroneous and misleading

    • Chris Kehinde Nwandu Ckn Yinka Kafayat ..well said but i ll always correct any illusion either deliberately or otherwise stated.I don't make up stories.i state them the way i see them.

    • Chikwem Ojini our government is a let down

    • Anita Mute Awuku Yinka, no Chris doesnt like a RIGHT OF REPLY! Even the use of the word 'litter' is highly judgemental and displays a lot of arrogance to say the least. I am glad you reiterated that fact that every nation has there issues and the West looks 'flawless' in comparison to naija of today....these societies howbeit, make an 'attempt' to address their issues but what do we do? It is even Ok if it is well presented with facts....there's a world of difference btwn 'junk journalism' and journalism that appeals to the intellect....Chris Kehinde Nwandu Ckn is slowly defining his style, and on this very one issue, it lacks depth, ill-researched and unethical to say the least. My dear Chris, image matters, these are early days, build a good one and maintain the standard....keep it enlightened, well-researched as you do have done your Nigerian/homegrown stories and hey! there's absolutely every thing right in asking if you dont know afterall, no-one is a 'know-all' pls

    • Chris Kehinde Nwandu Ckn They live on council flats here and collects 1000 pounds monthly as welfare ..Most of them got pregnant for Jamaican guys who leave them after getting them pregnant..There are also Nigerian babes here who make legitmate living and get taxed monthly on their incomes. They are not the ones that i am refering to.But for anyone to deny the fact that we don't have several Nigerian babes here who practically live on the government because they have children as single is the greatest lie of the century. With time,i ll may even go ahead and publish the pictures..i have several on my camera.

    • Ade IY Gbadamosi Practically live on the government?? The door knocker is coming ..What am I saying ?? The door knocker has arrived one a child is .The can make themselves unemployable as they wish when pension age come dem go sabi that's even if there's any pension fruit left to pluck

I am not surprised as you are in downtown Peckham- an area of high social deprivation! That's how far your eyes can see of London? SouthEast London? Southwark abi? Then you will graduate to Hackney as then say that you have seen London in its entirety? You had better be careful how you paste pictures here cos there are laws - don't get caught pls! Try balanced journalism and don't get caught in all these abysmal ignorance pls. Quote me on this, no-one gets £1k disposable income in their pockets at the end of the month cos she has kids and on the dole! • Peju Aicha I am well placed to answer this Nigerians are minority to the amount of people abusing the system. Due to the high rent in London people are forced to bend the rules in any way they can. The take home money after paying all is a misery money. Most of these Women still go out and work for cash in hand. I have worked with council for many years and can confirm that no one is a winner in the benefit game. You end up living like a rat in a hole cause you don't know when we might knock on your for fraud. Come out in London and see who are the population of early morning. Our people work their backside hard to make it in this country. Please Chris this is a delicate conversation. It is far deeper than you might think. All the you still have people who are here to abuse the system the Peckham boys with their 419 scam. Overall you will need all your brain if you ever want to make it in a town where Oyinbo is only happy to give you a job he doesn't. Want. All I always advise people is to make enough money to establish them self back in their country and also know when to go back home before they end up in a home where they don't even serve African food.
