The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has denied allegations that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is plotting to assassinate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement dated October 20, 2026, the council dismissed the claim made by African Democratic Congress (ADC) member Timi Frank and challenged him to provide evidence to support the allegation.
The statement, signed by council spokesperson Dele Alake, called on security agencies to invite Frank to substantiate his claims. The council stressed that any credible threat to life should be investigated promptly, regardless of political affiliation.
The APC campaign council also rejected claims that Atiku’s security personnel had been withdrawn, insisting that the former vice president remained protected by the police and the Department of State Services (DSS). It further claimed that Tinubu had directed security agencies to strengthen protection for presidential, vice-presidential, governorship and deputy governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The council urged political parties, candidates and supporters to avoid unsubstantiated allegations capable of escalating political tension. It called for peaceful and lawful political competition focused on issues affecting Nigerians, rather than accusations that could undermine public confidence and democratic stability.
