The General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Ugboaja, is dead, Daily Trust can confirm.
Although the details surrounding his death was still sketchy as at when filing this report, sources said he died in an undisclosed hospital after a protracted illness.
Ugboaja, a veteran trade unionist and lawyer was appointed NLC General Secretary in August 2019.
He is the fifth General Secretary of the NLC. The late NLC scribe was born on May 15, 1966, and obtained a law degree from the University of Calabar in 1987.
According to the NLC’s historical biography, Ugboaja is the first Nigerian lawyer to work full-time for a trade union.
A letter from the late General Secretary’s family to members of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NLC confirmed his death.
The letter was made public by the President of the Congress, Joe Ajaero, on Thursday.
