Former Minister Timipre Sylva Resigns From APC, Blames Party For Disappointing Nigerians

Former Bayelsa Governor and Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has resigned from the APC with immediate effect.

Sylva announced his resignation in a letter dated August 31, 2026, addressed to the APC Chairman in Ward 4, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

He said he made the decision after consulting with his family, associates, colleagues and supporters.

Sylva, a founding member of the APC, said he was disappointed with the direction of the party, he criticised the APC-led government, saying it had disappointed many Nigerians and that he could not see any credible effort to revive it.

Sylva also accused the EFCC of acting more like an organ of the APC than an institution of the state.

He said he was aware that his resignation could lead to renewed pressure against him and his associates, but added that he was willing to take the risk.

Timpre Sylva is wanted in connection with an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu, as well as a separate EFCC case involving alleged $14.86 million fraud.
