Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has approved N5 million as support for the family of Mr. Adamu Salisu Dangwari said to have been killed earlier this year at Rainbow Bus Stop in Mile 2 area of the state during an operation by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Making the presentation of the cheque yesterday to the state Chairman of Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), Mr. Tayo Abejoye, the Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi explained that the money was to mitigate the effect of Dangwari’s death on the family.
Elegushi added emphatically that investigation is still on-going on the issue by the police, saying the gesture followed overtures from Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association over the death of Dangwari who was their member.
He expressed optimism that continued engagement between the Ministry, its sister agencies and the PTD will go a long way in dealing with the issues that can lead to altercations. The Special Adviser added that the governor’s magnanimity is geared towards ensuring that relief comes to the family of Dangwari.
Elegushi who paid glowing tribute to the late Adamu Dangwari, commended the leadership of PTD and NUPENG for the maturity displayed in handling the case which would have turned out as crisis in the state.
According to him, the intervention of the union leaders in resolving the issue then was highly appreciated.
He appealed to the union leaders to continue to enlighten its members and prevail on them to always obey the laws, rules and regulations that affect transportation and their operations in the state.
Responding, comrade Aboyeji lauded the state government’s gesture towards the family of the deceased, adding that the union and its members would on their part continue to support the state in achieving its policies and programmes as regards the transportation sector.
