The wait for the safe return of a serving councillor in Kogi State has ended in tragedy, following the death of Rosemary Aduku, who represented Ogugu Ward III in the Olamaboro Local Government Legislative Council.
Aduku reportedly died after spending several days in captivity. Her death was announced on Friday by the Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Dr Ameh Williams, in a statement issued on behalf of the local government’s Executive Council.
The news has brought sadness to the local government, where the late councillor was known among her colleagues as Hon. Rosella.
In the announcement, Williams remembered Aduku as a humble and dependable woman who maintained a strong commitment to the happiness and well-being of those around her. He described her as someone whose character and relationships had left a lasting impression on colleagues and members of the local government administration.
According to the chairman, her time in public service may have been cut short, but the memories of her contributions and the positive testimonies surrounding her life would remain with those she left behind.
Williams also extended condolences to her immediate family, fellow members of the Olamaboro Legislative Council, the Executive Council and the wider Ogugu community, urging them to find the strength to endure the loss.
Meanwhile, arrangements were announced for her burial, scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday at her family compound in Ogugu Centre.
Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were also invited to attend the ceremony and join the community in paying their final respects to the deceased councillor.
Rosemary Aduku’s death marks a painful moment for her family, colleagues and constituents, who have lost a representative remembered by local government officials for her humility, reliability and concern for others.
