The personal assistant to late Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings has recounted the desperate efforts to save the singer’s life after he suddenly slumped in Ibadan, Oyo State. Babadunni Gbolabo said the team rushed him to several hospitals for emergency treatment but struggled to secure medical attention before his death on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
According to Gbolabo, the singer was taken first to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, but they were unable to obtain the required care because doctors were on strike.
He said they subsequently moved from one facility to another in search of help, hoping that medical personnel would be able to revive the singer.
The aide said they visited about seven or eight hospitals in total, with some reportedly citing the strike or the unavailability of doctors.
He also said Toluwanisings had appeared well before he slumped, making the sudden incident particularly shocking for those around him.
These details are based on the aide’s account to the media.
Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died aged 41, less than a day after ministering at a worship programme in Ibadan.
His death has prompted tributes from fans and fellow gospel musicians, while his family says details of the funeral arrangements will be announced later.
