Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has threatened to make it difficult for former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi to campaign in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike’s warning followed remarks attributed to Amaechi describing people who intend to vote for President Bola Tinubu as “thieves” and “mad people.”
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Friday, October 9, Wike said Amaechi should not expect to make such comments without facing resistance from Tinubu’s supporters in Rivers State.
He urged the former governor to withdraw the remarks and argued that political campaigns should focus on policies and plans rather than personal attacks.
Wike also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take action against politicians who engage in what he described as inflammatory statements.
He questioned Amaechi’s record as a former governor, raising allegations concerning the $39 million cassava flour mill project, the ₦68 billion Port Harcourt monorail and other transactions.
