A tragic incident has thrown the Akiode Ibogun community in Ogun State into mourning following the deaths of a Celestial Church of Christ shepherd and his wife in the early hours of Monday, August 31, 2026.
According to information from community sources, Evangelist Abidemi Odukoya, Shepherd-in-Charge of CCC Iri Orun Parish, was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute with his wife, Adenike Odukoya, at their residence at about 3:00 a.m.
The dispute reportedly became violent, during which Mrs. Odukoya sustained serious head injuries and subsequently became unconscious. Their son reportedly raised an alarm, prompting neighbours and members of the Community Development Association to intervene.
Mrs. Odukoya was later confirmed dead and was reportedly buried at the family residence at about 2:00 p.m. the same day.
In a separate but connected development, Evangelist Odukoya was reportedly found dead along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway around Iyana Coker, Ifo, several hours later.
Community sources alleged that after leaving Ibogun, the shepherd travelled towards Ifo and deliberately ran into the path of an oncoming fully loaded Dangote cement truck. He reportedly died at the scene after being struck by the vehicle.
However, the circumstances surrounding his death, including the allegation that it was deliberate, have not been independently established and should be treated as an allegation pending official findings.
The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding both deaths.
The incident has left residents shocked, with the community awaiting further clarification from the authorities as investigations continue.
