African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised what he described as the handling of President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Sowore alleged that Tinubu is currently receiving medical treatment in France, rather than being on vacation, and claimed that the President would be presented publicly as though nothing had happened upon his return to Nigeria.
He also claimed that Tinubu’s inability to attend the UN General Assembly was linked to an alleged fear that the United States government could order his arrest over what Sowore described as a past drug-dealing case.
Sowore criticised Nigerians he described as sycophants for allegedly accepting the situation without questioning it. He compared the situation to how he said the administrations of former Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari handled similar concerns, calling for greater transparency and a change in what he described as a culture of secrecy and managed public appearances.
