Peter Obi Meets Canadian High Commissioner, Discusses 2027 Elections

Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has met with officials of the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria to discuss the country’s forthcoming elections, economic development and stronger bilateral cooperation.

Obi said the meeting, held at the invitation of the Canadian High Commission, focused on Canada’s continued support for strengthening Nigeria’s democratic processes, as well as issues relating to trade, investment and education.

He also highlighted the need for affirmative measures to increase women’s participation and representation in politics.

According to Obi, a peaceful, stable and prosperous Nigeria is in Canada’s strategic interest and would create greater opportunities for deeper partnerships between Nigeria, Canada and the wider African continent.

The former Anambra State governor stressed the importance of strengthening democratic institutions, deepening citizen participation and building a political system that gives every Nigerian the opportunity to contribute to governance.

Obi said he looked forward to continued engagement with Canada’s diplomatic and business community in pursuit of partnerships that would promote a more prosperous, secure and inclusive Nigeria.
