Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has proposed that every Nigerian should undergo military training, saying the experience would help citizens better understand the sacrifices and demands faced by members of the Armed Forces.
Musa made the proposal while speaking on the African Leadership Podcast hosted by Ken Giami. He said military training exposes participants to hunger, exhaustion, physical strain and other difficult conditions that build endurance and provide a different perspective on life.
The former Chief of Defence Staff said such training could also help Nigerians appreciate the responsibilities of soldiers who put their lives at risk to protect the country. He expressed concern over criticism directed at the military despite the sacrifices made by personnel.
Musa had earlier said military training can build discipline, commitment and resilience, while the Federal Government stated in February that it had no plan to introduce mandatory military service for Nigerian youths.
