A 25-year-old woman, Kehinde Onizeokaraga, has allegedly been hacked to death by her husband, Ibrahim Sodiq, popularly known as Alfa Eleran, during a marital dispute in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday at the residence of Lamidi Salawu, popularly known as “07”, a friend of Kehinde’s father.
The couple had reportedly gone there for mediation over unresolved differences in their marriage.
According to reports, Kehinde had been planning to leave the marriage and was expected to travel to her sister’s residence in Idoani, Ondo State, on Thursday. Her cousin, Lawrence Yusuf, alleged that she was invited to Salawu’s residence by his wife without knowing that Sodiq would also be there.
The attempt to resolve the marital dispute allegedly turned violent after an argument escalated into a physical confrontation. Sodiq, a meat seller, allegedly attacked Kehinde repeatedly with a machete, inflicting injuries that resulted in her death. Reports said he fled the scene after the incident, while the deceased’s remains were taken away.
The victim’s family is demanding justice and has called for Sodiq’s arrest and prosecution. Some individuals connected to the mediation, including Salawu and his wife, were reportedly taken into police custody to assist with the investigation.
