Currently we have more than 3,000 FM Radio Stations in Nigeria
In Lagos alone I learnt they're over 50 radio stations ( all on FM Frequencies)
But in the late 70s , there was only one FM Radio station in Nigeria , all other Stations were on the AM Band
The station was NBC2 located at 45 Martins Street , Lagos
The reach and audience were unprecedented
It remained so until OGBC 2 Abeokuta came on stream ( I stand to be corrected ) . I remember there was another station in Port Harcourt so I don't know between OGBC and the one in Rivers which came first
Back to NBC2 , it later metamorphosed into FRCN2 and I learnt it RN2 and Metro FM ( I leant )
The pioneers of this station were Jones Usen Phil Ushe, Manny Onumonu , Willie Egbe , Jacob Akinyemi Johnson, Sylver Oforgu , Egbuna ( I've forgotten his first name ) Boniface Owoicho Onogwu , there are other popular names I've forgotten ( please help out )
People like Ndidi Osaka and the rests joined later
But the main pioneer ( anchors ) were not more than 10
Today , when you listen to your various FM Stations just know that there were some people that laid the foundation
