Popular Awka-born master of ceremonies, comedian and griot, Aiza Nwosu, was reportedly shot dead on Sunday, 30th August 2026, in Awka, Anambra State.
Unconfirmed reports circulating online allege that his killing may be connected to a lingering land-related dispute. This remains unverified, however, and it is now left for the relevant security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
The tragic news has shocked many, particularly within Awka and the entertainment community. It also raises renewed concerns about violent killings in Awka and the urgent need to address insecurity in the area.
Aiza had been active in the entertainment industry for many years and was a friend and colleague to many. He was also known for mentoring younger entertainers and contributing to the growth of the local entertainment scene.
Since news of his death emerged, social media platforms have been flooded with messages of shock, grief and tributes from friends, colleagues, associates and admirers.
Many will remember Aiza for his avant-garde dress sense and his colourful, staged roadshows for clients, often conducted with his vehicle fitted with loudspeakers.
He was never afraid to be unconventional or theatrical. On one memorable occasion, he wore false eyelashes, and in another of his comic stunts, dragged a dead python through the streets of Awka, joking that it was the same snake that had reportedly swallowed millions of naira at a JAMB office.
Such was Aiza’s unique brand of humour-bold, spontaneous and unmistakably his own.
