FG Approves N438bn Road Projects, Trailer Park And Expressway Concessions



The Federal Government has approved road construction and rehabilitation projects valued at about N438 billion, alongside several highway and trailer park concessions across the country.

The approvals were made at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday and presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, disclosed the details while briefing State House correspondents after the meeting.

Among the approved projects is the reconstruction of the Ado-Ekiti-Iyin-Aramoko-Itawure-Osun border road in Ekiti State at a cost of N159.83 billion. The project was awarded to CBC Global Civil and Building Construction Nigeria Ltd.

The council also approved a N54.12 billion variation order for the rehabilitation of the Abeokuta-Iboro-Ilaro Road in Ogun State.

In Rivers State, N74.51 billion was approved for the reconstruction of the 15-kilometre Port Harcourt-Eleme Junction-Onne Port Junction section of the East-West Road. The contract was awarded to RCC Nigeria Ltd., with a nine-month completion period.

Another N54.52 billion was approved for Phase II rehabilitation of the Ado-Ekiti-Afe Babalola University Road in Ekiti State, which forms part of the Ado-Ijan-Iluomobi-Imesi-Ondo border route.

The Federal Government also approved N94.24 billion for the construction of Phases II to V of the Ilara-Iselu Road in Ogun State. JRB Construction Company Ltd. was awarded the contract, with a 24-month completion period.

Under public-private partnership arrangements, the council approved a 40-year concession for the development of the 7.9-kilometre Dikko-Maje section of the Suleja-Minna Road in Niger State at an estimated value of N56.75 billion. Graciatech Engineering Nigeria Ltd. will undertake the concession.

The operation and maintenance of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was also approved under a 25-year concession valued at N96.43 billion, with LIB Concession Group named as the concessionaire.

In addition, the council approved a 50-year concession for the development of a greenfield trailer park at Aro-Ngwa in Abia State, valued at N19.70 billion. Greg Jane International Ltd. will undertake the project.

The Federal Government said the approvals form part of its ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure, strengthen transportation networks and encourage private-sector participation in the development and management of critical infrastructure across the country.
