Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Honoured with Chieftaincy Title "Obalefun" In Badagry

The 2023 Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, popularly known as GRV, has been conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title of "Obalefun" by the Ijo Olorisa Parapo royal elite circle in the Badagry Division of Lagos State.

The coronation ceremony, which took place over the weekend, marked Rhodes-Vivour’s formal induction into the Omoluabi Royal Elite Circle, a revered cultural institution within the Yoruba traditional structure. The event was held under the authority of the Akran of Badagry, who also serves as the Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Chiefs. It attracted prominent traditional rulers, local chiefs, family members, and well-wishers.

Among the notable attendees was Chief Babatunde Wusu, Onitiju Baale of Yovokome Boekoh in Badagry, whose presence further underscored the cultural and historical importance of the title. The gathering represented unity among the five traditional divisions of Lagos State, known by the acronym IBILE – Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe. The installation aligns with the values of the custodians of Yoruba heritage and further affirms Rhodes-Vivour’s deep connection to his ancestral roots.

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, who hails from Popo Aguda in the Lagos Island Division, comes from a lineage with long-standing historical ties to Lagos. The title "Obalefun," meaning “bringer of peace and joy,” not only celebrates his family legacy but also his contributions to the socio-cultural development of the state. He was joined at the ceremony by his father, Babatunde Rhodes-Vivour, his wife, and his siblings, emphasizing the importance of family presence in traditional rites and recognition.

In addition to the chieftaincy, Rhodes-Vivour was also inducted as a Peace Ambassador of the Ijo Olorisa Parapo. This honorary role highlights his efforts in promoting peace, unity, and development across Lagos. Over the years, GRV has been outspoken on issues of governance, youth empowerment, and social reform. His recognition by traditional institutions adds a meaningful cultural dimension to his profile as a public figure and community leader.
