Dr. Christy Akpunonu, (the woman in the picture clutching a pen and publication in her hand) successfully defended her PhD thesis earlier today in University of Abuja.
She is 85 years old. Her journalism career did not allow her pursue her academic dream.
After her retirement, she picked up an academic job in a University. There she was challenged to get her PhD.
At that time, she was getting close 80 years of age. Instead of giving excuses and letting it pass, she threw her hat into the rings.
Getting a PhD is not a joke. She sweated it out with other students.
During one of her interviews, she was asked why she wanted a PhD at her age. She said she wanted a PhD as her crown 👑.
I am happy for Christy, because today, she has her crown of a PhD degree on her head. I thank God with her for preserving her life and making her dream come true and through.
Her story is one of determination and grace of God.
This is wishing her more grace to enjoy her crown. 👑
