Senate Declares Two Senators Seats Vacant

The Nigerian Senate has declared the Anambra South and Edo Central senatorial seats vacant, thereby  paving the way for fresh electoral contests in both districts.

The announcement was made during Tuesday’s plenary session, when the President of the Senate , Godswill Akpabio officially declared the seats vacant in accordance with provisions of the constitution.

The Anambra North seat became vacant following the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

Meanwhile, the Edo Central seat became vacant following the resignation of Senator Monday Okpebholo, who had to step down after his election as Governor of Edo State.

With this development,  the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is expected to announce a timetable for by-elections to fill the vacant seats.
