Here are Nigerian stars whose passing left many mourning their absence and celebrating their legacies.


1.    Baba Olofa Ina

Chief Adedeji Aderemi, popularly known as Baba Olofa Ina, was a veteran Yoruba filmmaker and actor who lit up the Yoruba theatre industry for decades. At 73, his impactful journey came to an end, leaving a void in the hearts of his fans and colleagues Baba Olofa Ina’s legacy in Nigerian cinema remains unshaken.


2.    Jimi Solanke

Legendary actor, poet, and folk singer Jimi Solanke passed away at 81. His voice, storytelling prowess, and passion for the arts cemented his place as a cultural treasure. Sadly, Solanke succumbed to illness after being rushed to Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ogun State.


3.    Ethel Ekpe

Veteran actress Ethel Ekpe, remembered for her role as ‘Segi’ in Basi and Company, succumbed to cancer in Lagos at 61. A force in Nigerian entertainment, Ekpe also graced screens in Amaka Igwe’s Forever and Sons of the Caliphate. Her passing marks the end of an era for many Nigerian TV enthusiasts.


4.    Sisi Quadri

5.    Mr Ibu

John Okafor, affectionately called Mr Ibu, was a household name in Nollywood comedy. Known for his comedic genius, he died on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62. Despite battling illness in the months leading to his death, Mr Ibu left behind a legacy of laughter and unforgettable roles.


6.    Amaechi Muonagor

Known for his comical roles in Nollywood, Amaechi Muonagor died at 61 after battling kidney disease. His fans took to social media to honour his memory, remembering the joy he brought to their screens.


7.    Aderounmu Aderonke

Adejumoke Aderounmu, beloved for her role as “Esther” in Jenifa’s Diary, tragically passed away at 40. Her brother and close friends shared the news online, leaving fans to mourn a promising actress gone too soon.


8.    Junior Pope Odonwodo

The tragic death of Junior Pope Odonwodo at just 39 stunned the Nollywood community. The actor drowned in a boat accident in Asaba while filming The Other Side of Life. Pope’s dedication to his craft and his heartfelt plea for safety in his last video make his passing all the more poignant.
