Abducted Islamiya Students Released After 88 Days


The 136 abducted children of Tanko Salihu Islamic school, Tegina, in Rafi local government area of Niger State have been released.

The children who spent 89 days in captivity were released by their abductors around Kebbi state.

Proprietor of the of the school, Alhaji Idris Umar confirmed this to Punch during a telephone interview.

The abduction happened on 30th May following an attack on Tegina where bandits were said to be shooting sporadically.

It was earlier reported that about 200 children were kidnapped but later it was confirmed that they are about 136.

Two of the children escaped from captivity after some weeks while four of them who were left behind later died and a parent was also confirmed dead after hearing of the abduction.

The proprietor while confirming it said the children are alrasdy on their way to Minna where the state government will receive them.

The bandits after the abduction demanded for N300 million initially but later reduced it to N50million which was paid in two installments.

After he N50million ransom, the abductors also demanded for additional N20million and six motorcycles which they insisted on getting before releasing the children.
