Former Defence Minister, Musiliu
Obanikoro has been released by the EFCC after dropping N100 million with the graft
agency.
Obanikoro, who had been in EFCC
custody for three weeks, is accused of paying over N3.88 billion out of the
N4.7 billion traced to companies linked to him and his sons, to Governor
Ayodele Fayose and former Osun Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
Incidentally, the two top politicians, who had
earlier threatened fire with EFCC for lying against them, have willingly opted
to refund the amount traced to them from the Office of the detained former
National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
A top EFCC official confirmed that
Omisore refunded N50 million on Friday to the commission in an apparent bid to
get off its hook and stave off lengthy litigation. According to the source,
Omisore had earlier refunded the sum of N300 million out of the amount he
allegedly took from Obanikoro, bringing the total of his refund so far to N350
million.
“It is true that Omisore dropped N50
million with us today in addition to the N300m he had earlier paid,” an
official confirmed last night.
