As part of activities of the 2016 Abuja International
Film Festival scheduled to start on the 4th of October 2016 and run
through the 7th October, 2016. The AIFF Talent Campus which is an
initiative of the Abuja International Film has concluded the training of 60
young Nigerians in the craft of cinematography and photography.
The project which is an original and first of its kind
concept of the Abuja International Film Festival is in partnership with Canon
(manufacturers of the canon range of cameras) with the creative cities grant
support from the British council took the participants through the rudiment of
cinematographic and photographic expression.
According to Uche Agbo one of the participants from
Enugu who said the training has opened to new tricks in the act of
cinematography, emphasing that whatever knowledge garnered here is not wasted.
To Raul Gabat the Canon Technical facilitator for the
AIFF/Canon Talent Campus, the result from the programme is simply the transfer
of skills and knowledge to the participants. Temitope Duker the project
director for AIFF Talent Campus reiterated Abuja International Film Festivals
commitment to developing capacity and creating new entrepreneurs in the
creative sector in Nigeria.
The Film Festival will open with a cocktail that will
have 4 Ministers, 8 Ambassadors and several Filmmaker delegations from Benin,
Ghana, Togo, Liberia, and Cameroun storm the glamorous opening ceremony of the
13th Abuja International Film Festival slated for 4pm at the
Silverbird Cinemas Abuja. The Ministers expected are the Host Minister and FCT
Minister Alhaji Mohammed Musa Bello, Minister of Information and Culture Alh.
Lai Mohammed, Minister of Water Resources Engr. Suleiman Adamu and the Minister
of Culture of Cameroun, Also confirmed to attend are the Ambassadors of Iran,
China, USA, Mexico, France, Italy, Ghana amongst several high powered
dignitaries.
The Festival is laced with several programmes including
the acting master classes facilitated by the quartet of Lancelot Imasuen,
Richard Mofe Damijo, segun Arinxe and Evelyn Ikuenobe Otaigbe. The Documentary masterclass will be
collaboration between the American Embassy in Nigeria and Abuja Film Festival
and it will involve 4 American filmmakers running a documentary masterclass
over 4 days.
