80 YEAR OLD MAN,2,258 NEW LAWYERS CALLED TO THE BAR

The Nigerian Law School under the supervision of the Council for Legal Education (CLE) yesterday in Abuja called to bar, 2,259 new lawyers, among who were President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, Alima Buhari and an 80-year old man, Enebeli Pius Chuka.

 The new lawyers were called after successfully completing the April 2016 final bar examinations.

 The wife of the president, Hajia Aisha Buhari and other dignitaries were at the ceremony held at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja to formally confirm the new lawyers as members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

The Director General, Nigerian Law School, Olanrewaju Onadeko, said the 80 year-old man was the oldest ever produced by the school.

 He said the classroom solution, a video conferencing platform linking all campuses of the Nigerian Law School deployed by the Nigerian Commissions Satellite Limited (NICOMSAT) would soon be commissioned to enable members of the bar and the bench interact with students from any campus of the law school.

 He said the violation of admission quotas by some faculties of Law had remained a major challenge and reiterated the essence of strict adherence to allocated students population by Law faculties, adding that failure to keep to the numbers impacts negatively on the quality of products.

He advised parents and students willing to study Law overseas to seek advice from the Nigerian Law School and National Universities Commission before proceeding.

The Chairman, Body of Benchers, Bamdele Aiku (SAN), reminded the new lawyers that a lawyer is not only an officer of the court, but holds a position of trust and confidence among members of the community.
