The Department of State Service (DSS)
yesterday arrested a former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), retired Lt
General Azubuike Ihejirika.
According to reliable sources, Ihejirika was picked up by DSS agents on Tuesday night in Abuja to explain allegations of fraud when he was Chief of Army Staff.
However, it could not get an independent confirmation
of the arrest from the DSS, as the service does not have an official
spokesperson who can be contacted for confirmation.
Ihejirika had been mentioned as one of the former service chiefs being investigated over allegations of fraud in the ongoing investigations of misappropriation of public funds earmarked for the purchase of arms to fight insurgency in the North east.
