The Department of State Service,DSS,
Tuesday,released Mr Ikenga Ugochinyere, Special Assistant to the Senate
President, Bukola Saraki, on Youth and Students Affairs, from its detention
cell.
Ugochinyere, who is also the
President of National Youth Council of Nigeria,NYCN,was released,Monday night,
after about one month of detention by the DSS.
At a press conference Tuesday,in
Abuja, to announce his release, Mr Chinyere,who narrated his detention
experience to newsmen,alleged unfair treatment in the hands of the secret
police.
He described his arrest and
subsequent detention by the DSS as illegal,hinting that he has instructed his
legal team to institute a N200 million suit against the DSS in court over what
he called “illegal detention.”
He also alleged breach of his
fundamental human rights and denial of access to his family and medical
services by the federal government security agency.
“I have consulted with my lawyers
and they are seeking an order of court for the enforcement of my fundamental
rights declaring my month long detention illegal and they are seeking for
damages of two hundred million naira against the SSS for the illegal detention
and torture”, he said.
