FRSC ZONAL COMMANDER ARRESTS UNRULY DRIVERS ALONG LAGOS IBADAN EXPRESSWAY

The Federal Road Safety Commission Zone RS2 Lagos warns all road users that there is no other influence on the road that causes road crashes but attitude of road users. That every road user has the right to use but such must meet all best road safety practices to ensure being alive and healthy into 2016 which is few days from today. This warning was handed down by the Assistant Corps Marshal Nseobong Akpabio Zone 2 to motorists apprehended by FRSC operatives while monitoring traffic and deployment of Federal Road Safety Corps Operatives along Lagos -Ibadan expressway on Wednesday 23rd December 2015 for the End of year Special Patrol.

Addressing a group of drivers apprehended for driving against traffic near Sagamu interchange on Lagos – Ibadan expressway, Assistant Corps Marshal Akpabio warned out that no person has diplomatic immunity against road traffic crash that the road we all use daily may be patient but does not forgive. Motorist must adhere strictly to all road traffic rules and regulations irrespective of status of individual or type of vehicle. Only those who are responsible can drive safely into 2016 as the corps does not want anyone to drive to the cemetery or emergency ward in hospital.

Assistant Corps Marshal Akpabio pointed out that no motorist will be spared if found defaulting in the conduct inimical to road safety best practices before during and after the 2015 Christmas and end of year Special Operations, according to him, it is better such non-road worthy drivers, riders or pedestrians are quickly removed from the road than allowing irresponsible drivers or riders to cause untold hardship on innocent road users. The increase in vehicular movement on the highways is a normal occurrence in times like this but proper usage of the road will guarantee crash free movement. He warned that the Corps will deal decisively with irresponsible road users generally irrespective of status in the society hence everyone must exhibit road safety attitude at all times.

The Zonal Commanding Officer ACM Nseobong Charles Akpabio stated that the deployment of human and material resources on a daily basis along the major corridors within his area of responsibility (comprising Lagos and Ogun states) is meant to ensure free flow of traffic on the roads and ensure zero road traffic crashes. Major focus routes are Ojota-Berger-Long bridge-Magboro (Lagos-Ibadan Expressway), Ibafo-Mowe-Sagamu Interchange (Lagos-Ibadan), Ogere-Ogunmakin-Oluyole (Lagos-Ibadan) and Ijebu Ode-Ajibande-Oniparaga (Ijebu Ode-Ore Expressway). Others are Apapa - Mile 2 - Badagry - Seme boarder routes; Lagos - Otta - Abeokuta; Otta -Idiroko; Lekki -Epe -Ijebu-ode routes among others. That adequate monitoring mechanism has been put in place on all corridors. He appeal to motorist to make use of FRSC Toll Free Emergency number 122 and text only line 070022553772 and 08077690200 for any information that requires urgent attention.

The Assistant Corps Marshal therefore directed that a proactive plan and action be sustained by all Commands in the Zone throughout the period in line with the Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi directive. The Zone has created six (6) emergency help areas at Ojota, Opic, Mowe, Ogunmakin, Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode to aid quick response to Road Traffic Crashes if any. Major construction Companies on the corridor have been contacted for any collaborative effort in case of need and all operational material and equipment have been put in place for quick response.


All corridor Commanders are directed to sustain the tempo of operations and Public enlightenment at various motor parks, churches, mosques, community centers, radio and television programme.
