OGUN EXCO PAYS GLOWING TRIBUTES TO H.I.D. AWOLOWO

Ogun State Executive Council has paid glowing tributes to the matriarch of Awolowo dynasty, Late Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, in recognition of her sterling roles in nation building.
The Council members, led by Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, during this Monday meeting held at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, took turn to eulogise Mama Awolowo who passed on at the age of 99 on the 19th of September, 2015, describing her as an icon of excellence and epitome of womanhood.
They said that Mama Awolowo apart from being a pillar of support for her husband, maintained and sustained the legacies of the first Premier of the Western region without looking backward.
They said the deceased who made their Ikenne home a Mecca of some sorts, was a rallying point for all politicians in the Country irrespective of political class, pointing out that her life reflected the textbook of a wife with various chapters on how to be a good woman, wife and mother respectively.
‘’Mama was a woman of virtue and humility. She was an icon par excellence, an epitome of womanhood and a source of inspiration to all and sundry. We were aware of her mental alertness which helped her in her motherly role to the nation, even at old age. The support she gave her husband was a lesson that you can achieve greatness by doing family thing. Apart from being a pillar of support, Mama upheld the legacies of her husband for about 30 years even after his demise.
Mama’s life is a textbook of a wife worth recommending to everyone where good chapters are available on how to be a good wife, mother and grandmother. Her life is a compass of a woman who wants to be remembered.’’ they said.
The cabinet noted that the best way to remember the Matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty was to nurture her virtues of service of selflessness and service to humanity, urging that Mama’s final journey home which began with a lying-in-state in her Apapa-Lagos home, followed by a move to her Ibadan residence, was not a time to mourn but to celebrate her in death.
Mama HID Awolowo would be interred to the mother earth on November 25, 2015, the day she would have marked her 100th birthday.
