Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday expressed sadness over the death of foremost technocrat and industrialist, Gamaliel Onosode.
Onosode, a former Presidential Adviser to President Shehu Shagari died on Tuesday at the age of 82.
“Mr. Onosode was one of the few Nigerians who ruled the boardroom. A quintessential businessman, he was also a master in his field and deeply religious. It was not therefore surprising that he rose to become a leading boardroom player in Nigeria’s corporate environment”.
“He will be remembered for the dexterity he brought to bear when he served as chairman and board member of several multinational companies”.
“I wish to convey my deepest condolences to the Onosode family on behalf of the good people of Lagos state. This is indeed a sad loss”, Governor Ambode said.
He also prayed that Almighty God grant the soul of the departed peaceful repose and for the family, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Meanwhile,the immediate past Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has expressed his deep condolence on the death of Pa Gamaliel Offoritsenere Onosode.
In his message on the passing of the elder statesman, Otunba Daniel described him as a distinguished boardroom player whose contributions to the growth of Nigeria's socio-political and economic development were immense.
In the words of former governor Daniel, "Pa Onosode's contributions to the socio-economic development of the country were immense evident of which was his various appointments in both private and public sectors".
"A one time Presidential Adviser on Budget Affairs and Director of Budget in the second republic, Pa Onosode recorded landmark achievements in bringing sanity and disciplined approach to public finance".
Continuing, Otunba Daniel extolled the virtues of the departed philanthropist as a devout Christian of the Baptist denomination who has done so much in aiding the spread of 'the good news' and salvaging many souls.
"Though Pa Onosode lived a fulfilled life up to old age, the news came to me as a shock that one of the most illustrious Nigerians is gone. His demise is indeed a huge loss to the whole nation in general".
On behalf of his family, the former governor joined the Onosode family and other well meaning Nigerians in mourning the late business personality cum politician, praying for the repose of his soul and taking solace in the fact that late Pa Onosode lived a life worthy of emulation and leaving behind enduring legacies.
