Newly Elected NLC President Assumes Office In Abuja

The newly elected President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba, on Monday, formally assumed duty at the Paschal Bafyau House, headquarters of the congress.
In his maiden press briefing, he described the purported delegates conference being planned by Comrade Joseph Ajaero, who lost to him during the NLC election, last week, as illegal and a breach of the NLC constitution.
According to Comrade Wabba, the National Executive Council (NEC) of NLC is the only organ that has the authority to convene delegates’ conference.
“Any other conference organised by any organ, order than the one recognised by the union’s constitution is illegal as far as we are concerned.
“The only organ that can convene a delegates’ conference is the National Executive Council (NEC), according to our constitution. Therefore, that organ has convened the conference, a returning officer was appointed and the results were announced. Everybody was there, including journalists,” he said.
The new NLC president added that he was ready to extend an olive branch to Comrade Ajaero and other aggrieved members of the union, who lost out in the polls, to join him in providing purposeful leadership that would make the plight of Nigerian workforce better.
