President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, on Saturday, in Kano commissioned and named a N2.5 billion flyover after the late Emir of Kano, Dr Ado Bayero, saying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is working hard to reclaim the state which he described as important to Nigeria.
President Jonathan, who was in the state to commission the bridge, said PDP was determined to use the coming election to correct the wrongs done by some members of the party who decamped to the opposition.
His words: “Let me thank all of you that gather here to welcome us. Kano city is a great city in this country. Kano State is a critical state in this country, and that is why we have provided this bridge that flies over the Sahara highway. This is one of the most important roads that transverse this country.”
Jonathan, who poured encomiums on the late Emir of Kano, described him as a man “who held that office with extreme dignity. He gave colour to that office. He brought dignity and respect to the office. He left us, but we live to continue to remember him.
“So, this bridge we are commissioning, we are naming it after Ado Bayero as one of the little things that the Federal Government can do to immortalise his name and continue to promote his legacies.”
Meanwhle, Chief Lekan Balogun has described President Goodluck Jonathan as a young, composed and trustworthy person capable of leading the country.
He made the remark at a youth summit organised by the Peace Initiative Africa and Tizy Tidy Concept in his honour at the FirstBank lecture theatre, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Ibadan, on Saturday.
Senator Balogun, while addressing the teeming youths reminded them that the roles of intellectuals in the growth and development of the country could not be compromised.
“That is why you should always support people who are well-informed and educated to lead.
“It is also imperative you have leaders who are young and sound enough to understand your needs, rather than an aged one who is no longer in tune with what is happening in the world,” he said.
Similarly, the members of the University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association from the North have endorsed the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan for the March 28, 2015 presidential race, just as the Nigerian Ambassador to Argentina, Mr Chive Kaave, has stated that the stability of Nigeria lies in the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to him, “Just last week, President Jonathan packaged his transformation agenda which would begin to manifest in few years to come. So, allowing the president the second term in office will enhance growth and full actualisation of the transformation,” he added.
