Abia State government has denied reports in the Sun
newspapers that the state Governor, Chief Theodore Orji tampered with the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad hoc staff list.
Briefing newsmen in Umuahia on the issue, the
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr.ACB Agbazuere, said the
allegation is laughable and shows the level of ignorance of the opposition in
the state.
According to him, the Governor is neither a staff
of INEC nor has the capacity to tamper with the ad hoc list since he is not a
staff of the electoral body, adding that INEC ought to have complained to the
police if the allegation was true since the idea of tampering with INEC list is
a criminal offence.
Dr. Agbazuere stated that the allegation is the
conjecturing of drowning persons who are looking for what to hold on to
and urged them to look for better things to say.
On the allusion by the governorship candidate of
the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr. Alex Otti, that his life is
being threatened, the commissioner stated that there has been no case of
political assassination in the state since May 2007 till date that Governor
Orji assumed office, pointing out that the Governor is peace loving and has no
hand in threatening anyone.
Dr. Agbazuere described Otti’s action as
distractive and urged him to face his campaigns and learn the act of
politicking.
