Seventeen
people were on Monday killed in a road accident in Dogon-Kukah village of
Damagum Local Government Area of Yobe State, Head of the Accident and Emergency
Unit of the Damagum General Hospital,, Mallam Isa Yusuf told journalists.
He told
journalists on phone that 17 corpses were brought to the hospital and 50 others
are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
He said in
line with the Yobe State Government policies, those on admission would be
treated free for 48 hours, pointing out that those on admission are in stable
condition.
A witnessed,
Mallam Isa Yahaya, said that the accident was as a result of head on
collusion involving a luxurious bus belonging to YOUNG SHALL GROW MOTORS and a
trailer coming from opposite direction.
He said one
of the front tyres of the luxurious bus exploded as it ran into the upcoming
trailer as both vehicles collided leading to the death of 17 people.
The witness
also said Dogon Kukah residents assisted in the rescue before the arrival of
soldiers who were at the checkpoint in Dogon Kukah village.
The corpses
of the 17 people had been deposited at the Damagum General Hospital
