A 46-year-old farmer, Mr Olubusayo Sunday, on Wednesday, committed
suicide after beheading his wife and daughter.
A statement by the office of the Ogun State Police Command’s Public
Relations said that the incident occurred at Onigbedu town in Ewekoro Local
Government Area of the state.
According to the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the man stabbed himself severely and set himself ablaze at
about 1.15 p.m. on the day.
He was said to have beheaded his wife, Oyewole Sunday, 40 and
three-year-old daughter, Esther Sunday, for unknown reasons.
Adejobi said that police detectives attached to Ewekoro division of the
command had commenced investigation into the incident.
The statement read: “The man, Mr Olubusayo, was noticed when he stabbed
himself and wanted to jump into a well near his house, having set himself
ablaze but was prevented and rescued by his neighbours, who later found out
that he had wreaked a great havoc in his house, but he later died in the
hospital.
“The wife, Oyewole Sunday, 40 years, and the daughter, Esther Sunday,
three years, were beheaded by Olubusayo for reasons known to him and the three
corpses have been kept at the General Hospital, Ifo, for autopsy and
investigation.
“Up till this moment, no one or any member of the deceased family or
neighbours could tell the police the cause of the incident, but the last
statement Olubusayo made before he died, in the presence of the police
detectives, suggested that there was a quarrel between him and his wife.”
