The cargo section of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos that was closed few weeks back has been reopened. An investigation by CKN Nigeria showed that the cargo section was opened this morning. It was closed due to a fracas between the Nigerian Customs service operatives and Clearing agents at the airport. The agents were alleged to have harassed and pelted the new controller of Customs incharge of the airport with sachet water during an on the spot inspection of the facilities. Their action infuriated the Customs big boss who ordered the immediate closure of the facility. During this period, transactions worth billions of Naira were lost. The cargo section accounts to over 60% of goods imported into the country. In as much as we couldn't get the full details of the reopening, it is expected that several goods which have been put under lock and key will be cleared as quickly as possible as the yuletide is just few days away.
