The police in Lagos State have
arrested a woman for allegedly kidnapping two children, belonging to her
husband’s senior wife and killing one of them.
The suspect, identified as Aminat
Akanni, reportedly confessed to the police that she drowned one of the kidnapped
children inside a soakaway
Seven-year-old Lateef Mubo and
four-year-old Nosifat Mubo had reportedly left their father’s home at 305,
Church Street, Adeniji Adele to buy biscuit, when they disappeared.
The corpse of the younger child
was later recovered by policemen from Orile Divisional Police Station, after
the elder brother had been recovered from Aminat, said to be the second wife of
the missing children’s father.
The image maker in charge of the
state police command, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the death of the four-year-old
girl, adding that the suspect had been arrested.
The Lagos police spokesperson
said “ On 3/10/2014 at about 2000hours, one Moshood Mubo ‘male’ of 305, Church
Street, Lagos Island, reported at Adeniji Adele police station that two of his
children were missing since 1800hrs of same date when they went to buy biscuit
on the street.’’
He continued: “They are Lateef
Mubo ‘male’ aged seven years and Nosifat Mubo ‘female’ aged four years. On
9/10/2014, at about 1030hrs, one Aminat Akanni ‘female’ of 20, Masallashi
Street, Alakara Bus Stop, Orile, Lagos, was arrested with one of the missing
children, Lateef Mubo ‘male’ aged seven years, at CMS Bus Stop.”
Nwosu also added that “the said
Aminat Akanni ‘female’ is the second wife of the complainant.
Investigations revealed that the
corpse of the other child, Nosifat Mubo, ‘female’ aged four years, was
recovered at Orile Division in a sudden and unnatural death case.
‘‘Suspect confessed to have
drowned the child and dropped the corpse at Orile.’’
The Lagos police image maker also
added that, as part of efforts to get to the root of the incident, the state
police commissioner, Kayode Aderanti, had directed the case to be transferred
to Orile divisional police station for synchronisation and further action
